Blog #7- Week 3
Over the course of this project, I have realized that a lot of skills I had in my back pocket from being a Hawken student all my life have helped me succeed within this project and get the most out of it. I consider myself a strongly independent person. Considering I am doing this project by myself, that has been something that worked out well for me. I have been able to keep up on my work in and outside of the office without needing guidance (while of course I can ask questions when I need). I was able to spend the first bit of the project to take some time and listen and learn, which I think built a great foundation for me to then take off on my own. I have had struggles within my independence however, and I think my senior project provided me a lot of opportunities to work on that and improve them. Procrastination is something I can struggle with, and not having set homework every night or exact things to do every day, there was a lot of room for it to creep in if I wasn't careful. However, I used the break from normal classes to really jump on working on it, and I think it paid off. Especially because I am working in an area that I am excited about, it makes it easy and exciting for me to complete work and doesn't present any urges for me to put it off. I completed my main project for the Sports Commission, which I explained in a previous blog post, yesterday (Wednesday the 15th), which gave me ample time to check back through it and ask questions to make sure that it could be as helpful for the staff as possible when the time came to start putting plans into action for the event. I also think that being a Hawken student allowed me to collaborate really well with others, and in this case, adults. I didn't feel at all phased when meeting new people and asking questions on the spot. I have had a lot of experience with this through school which I think prepared me really well for this project and definitely amplified my experience.
Maggie, I'm glad that you were able to apply the skills that you learned at Hawken into action during your project. I also loved the mural and the conference room in the office! Great blogs! - Mrs. Mullen
